On 3rd October, 1574, the siege of Leiden ended, a siege which took the lives of more than a third of the city’s population: through hunger, plague, and waterborne diseases. Each year, Leiden reflects on her history and celebrates her freedom. Emma joined the Leidse Cantorij and the Koninklijke Militaire Kapel Johan Willem Friso, directed by Major Tijmen Botma to sing “The Holy City” during the remembrance ceremony in the Pieterskerk in a version she arranged specially for the choir.
