Four years after Gov. Greg Abbott said Texas would be the first state to build its own border wall, lawmakers quietly stopped funding the project.

Andrew Mahaleris, a senior aide to Governor Greg Abbott, said efforts to secure the border have enabled the state to make adjustments.

According to the Texas Tribune, the decision to end Texas' border wall funding was made in the last few hours of the legislative session. During "Operation Lone Star," Texas spent around $3 billion to build more than 64 miles of barriers along our southern border with Mexico.
