Ecuador will choose its next president in a runoff election in April between conservative incumbent Daniel Noboa and leftist lawyer Luisa González. Crime is a major issue for voters.

Indigenous leader Leonidas Iza, who led protests that nearly unseated Noboa’s predecessor, was tallying 5.26% of the votes, while Andrea Gonzalez, once the vice presidential candidate for an assassinated anti-corruption crusader, won 2.7%.

Ecuadors incumbent president Daniel Noboa is leading the presidential election with 45.6% of the vote, with nearly 30% of ballot boxes counted. His closest rival, Luisa Gonzalez, has 42.9%, making the race
