Canada’s prime minister and Mexico’s president ordered retaliatory tariffs on goods from the U.S., following through with their threats after U.S. Donald Trump sparked a trade war by imposing sweeping tariffs on imports from Canada,

President Trump is moving forward with extensive tariffs on America’s closest trading partners. Beginning Tuesday, companies bringing products into the United States from Canada and Mexico will pay a 25 percent tariff; importers bringing products in from China will pay an additional 10 percent on top of existing levies.

A day after levying steep new tariffs on Mexico, Canada and China, President Trump acknowledged what economists, members of Congress and even some of his own aides — in their previous lives — have been saying all along: Americans may find themselves paying the costs.
