Firefighters worked into the night to contain a blaze that sparked and quickly spread in northern Los Angeles County, prompting renewed fears of death and destruction in a region already decimated by historic wildfires this month.

Six wildfires are burning in Southern California, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire). Earlier this month, two significant wildfires ignited in Los Angeles and quickly grew to encompass thousands of acres.

The Hughes Fire in Los Angeles County, California rapidly spread due to strong winds on January 22. 9,200 acres were burned within a matter of hours, 31,000 people in the area are under evacuation orders.
