After the devastating floods that swept through Kerr County earlier this month, communities across the region are stepping up to help — and that includes volunteers from San Antonio.

Kerr County issued CodeRed ahead of yesterday's flood threat, urging residents to stay safe during heavy rain possible rising water.

Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick told CBS News Monday that the state of Texas could pay for storm sirens along the Guadalupe River.

In the last nine years, federal funding for a system has been denied to the county as it contends with a tax base hostile to government overspending.

At least 161 are still unaccounted for after the July Fourth floods that saw the waters of the Guadalupe rise to historic levels in Central Texas, officials with Kerr County said Friday. Authorities have confirmed 103 deaths, 36 of whom are children.

KERR COUNTY, Texas — As the Hill Country cleans up the flooding debris, medical clinics, pharmacies and partners with the State Department of Health are working to help first responders, volunteers, and flood victims stay safe with free tetanus shots. Its recommended to get a tetanus booster shot every 10 years as an adult.

The Kerr County Commissioners Court discussed installing early warning sirens as early as 2015, after a deadly flood on Memorial Day. To date, it still has not done so.

Kerr County residents will be in recovery and cleanup mode for a while. Baylor University and BearAid disaster relief are among the many groups stepping in to help with the healing process.
