Not even an hour after the Yankees agreed to a deal for Pittsburgh Pirates closer David Bednar, the club traded for Colorado Rockies middle reliever Jake Bird in exchange for second baseman Roc Riggio and left-handed starter Ben Shields.

The New York Yankees doubled down on their need for bullpen help before the MLB trade deadline, acquiring Jake Bird from the Colorado Rockies. In 45 games for Colorado, Bird pitched to a 4.57 ERA with 62 strikeouts.

New York is trading for Rockies reliever Jake Bird in exchange for second baseman prospect Roc Riggio and left-handed prospect Ben Shields, Jeff Passan of ESPN reports. The right-hander heads to the Yankees after spending the first three and a half years of his career in Colorado.
