The California Attorney General’s Office on Thursday, Feb. 13, asked an appeals court to move quickly and decide to have Huntington Beach’s voter ID law overturned, warning that voters will suffer if the case isn’t resolved before next year’s elections.

A lower court dismissed the state's suit against Huntington Beach over its new voter ID law, which is set to go into effect in 2026. The attorney general's office says time is of the essence in getting the case resolved.

Attorney General Rob Bonta asked appellate court justices Thursday to speed up their challenge to Huntington Beach’s new voter identification requirement, slated to go into effect in 2026. Last month the Attorney General’s office appealed a lower court dismissal of a lawsuit against the city over the voter ID requirement.
