Additional states, pharmacy chains and health care providers are expected to begin issuing the cards, built on open, interoperable standards, to their patients in the coming weeks.

The state Department of Health has launched the SMART Health Card website, a free online service for individuals 18 years or older to receive their official vaccination records.

"Smart Health Cards can best be understood as an open-source standard by which individuals can have a trustworthy verifiable copy of their vaccination status.
