Conrad Jarrett (Hutton), still grappling with the untimely death of his brother, Buck, attempts suicide. He returns home after staying in a psychiatric facility, and the movie follows his attempt to rebuild his life and family, and heal.

But left unspoken at a Vatican meeting with film stars were the deep divisions over issues like abortion and homosexuality.
