The San Francisco 49ers have given receiver Deebo Samuel permission to seek a trade, according to a person familiar with the situation. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the team has not made it public.

The 49ers granted Samuel and his agent permission to seek a trade once this latest request came a month ago, when Samuel, 29, sat with coach Kyle Shanahan following the 49ers’ 6-11, last-place season, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Samuel also requested a trade in 2022 before signing a three-year, $73.5 million contract extension with the 49ers that included $58.1 million guaranteed. He has repeatedly said he was “frustrated” with his lack of production while posting — and since deleting — an X post that he wasn’t getting the ball enough.
