Prosecutors have been ordered to respond to the president-elect’s request by Thursday morning, suggesting the court could rule before Friday’s scheduled sentencing.

President-elect Donald Trump asked the Supreme Court on Wednesday to halt the sentencing for his felony conviction in New York state, the latest in a series of moves from the incoming president seeking to use the courts to shield him before inauguration.

Trump's lawyers argued that the justices should step in and pause his sentencing "to prevent grave injustice and harm to the institution of the presidency."
