Los Angeles County on Monday agreed to pay $2.7 million to a teenager who was attacked by at least six other young people at a juvenile detention center in so-called “gladiator fights” that were allegedly facilitated by probation officers.

The initial recording showed a series of youths entering a day room at the Downey facility and attacking the teen, one after another, while officers did nothing.

Surveillance video captured a 16-year-old being repeatedly punched, kicked and stomped by juveniles while probation officers watched.
