Hezbollah called on Lebanon's political leadership on Thursday to act effectively to guarantee the complete Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon. A 60-day deadline for Israeli troop withdrawal under a ceasefire agreement with Lebanon is set to expire on Jan.

There are concerns in Jerusalem about whether Lebanese forces can uphold their part of the 60-day ceasefire deal.

Israel said on Thursday the terms of a ceasefire with Hezbollah were not being implemented fast enough and there was more work to do, while the Iran-backed group urged pressure to ensure Israeli troops leave south Lebanon by Monday as set out in the deal.

Israel’s ambassador to the United States said Thursday the two countries are in talks about extending the Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon as a deadline in the ceasefire approaches. Michael Herzog said in an interview with Israeli Army Radio that he believed Israel would "reach an understanding" with the Trump administration to extend the necessary time for the Lebanese Army to truly deploy and fulfill its role under the agreement.
