At age 35, Jason Heyward no longer has the lethal left-handed bat that marked his early days with the Atlanta Braves. But the towering veteran outfielder will prolong his career this season as part of a left-right platoon with Connor Joe, also signed by the San Diego Padres on the eve of spring training.

The Padres have reached agreement with Jason Heyward on a free agent deal, reports Dennis Lin of The Athletic. Lin indicates that Heyward is expected to split time in left field with San Diego’s other recent free agent pickup,

The Padres were busy on Friday addressing their lack of depth in left field. San Diego and outfielder/first baseman Connor Joe agreed on a one-year contract. Later, The Athletic reported that the club has reached a deal with veteran outfielder Jason Heyward.

The Padres added veterans Jason Heyward and Connor Joe, a San Diego native, before the start of Spring Training.

After getting dumped by the Los Angeles Dodgers just before the start of the 2024 postseason, Jason Heyward now has a chance to get some revenge after agreeing to a deal with the San Diego Padres.
