Wildfires continue to blaze in the western region of Izmir in Turkey which has resulted in more than 50,000 people being evacuated. A heatwave across Europe has seen temperatures soar and the heat, combined with strong winds, has seen fires spread out near Izmir, a city on the Aegean coast of Anatolia and a popular holiday destination.

Video shared on social media shows firefighting helicopters dropping water on fires burning in Turkey's Izmir province on Monday (June 30). Reuters was able to independently verify the location with outline of the buildings, terrain and road layout that matched file and satellite imagery of the area.
