Blakely McCrory, an 8-year-old student at Memorial Lutheran in Houston, was a third-generation Camp Mystic camper who was spending her first summer there.Her mother, Lindsey McLeod McCrory, told People that Blakely was a special little girl.

Federal regulators repeatedly granted appeals to remove Camp Mystic’s buildings from their 100-year flood map, as the camp operated and expanded in a dangerous flood plain.

Katherine Ferruzzo, a Camp Mystic counselor who had been missing since the Texas floods, was found dead on Friday, July 11, Ferruzzo's family confirmed in a statement obtained by NBC 5.

Camp Mystic successfully appealed to remove several structures from a FEMA flood zone, despite being located in a high-risk flood area in Texas Hill Country.

"And our cabins are high up, and for them to be flooding, it's like, you know, something's wrong," Georgia Jones said.
