A tie at the Minnesota Senate has come to an end as the DFL's Doron Clark is projected to win the special election for District 60 with 90.9% of the vote.

DFLer Doron Clark was elected to the Minnesota Senate in a special election Tuesday for a heavily blue district covering northeast Minneapolis. The result officially breaks a 33-33 tie between Republicans and Democrats in the Senate.

DFLer Doron Clark won in the deep-blue Minneapolis district with 90 percent of the vote, according to unofficial results.

Democrat Doron Clark has won the special election in Minnesota Senate District 60, confirming majority control for the DFL in the Senate. A special election was held in the district – which covers northeast and parts of southeast Minneapolis –following the death of Sen. Kari Dziedzic of cancer last month.

As one news account summarized, “For a moribund party, Democrats in the span of 24 hours are showing some signs of life.”

MINNEAPOLIS — DFLer Doron Clark won the Senate District 60 race in a landslide Tuesday, giving the party a one-seat majority in the Minnesota State Senate.
