In a decision that may come back to haunt them, the Miami Heat reportedly walked away from a final opportunity to land Kevin Durant. According to NBA insider Shams Charania, the Phoenix Suns made one last trade offer to Miami for the two-time Finals MVP, but the Heat declined.

The Heat was among the teams that engaged the Suns on a potential trade for Durant after being eliminated in the first round of the playoffs in each of the last two seasons. But Miami was only willing to go so far in what players and picks it included in its offer for Durant at this stage of his career, as he’ll turn 37 years old on Sept. 29.

Before the Houston Rockets acquired Kevin Durant on Sunday for Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the No. 10 pick in Wednesday's NBA draft and five second-rounders, per ESPN's Shams Charania, the team also "engaged in serious talks" with the Miami Heat and Minnesota Timberwolves.
